Carve Tahoe:

Gnarly expressionism.

What began as a creative challenge for Sapporo Beer quickly spiraled into a full-blown obsession—one that led to two years of wading waist-deep (and occasionally backstroking) through the mesmerizing world of snow sculpting.

Not ice sculpting. Not those sad brunch buffet swans cradling overcooked shrimp. We're talking snow sculpting.

For the uninitiated: snow sculpting is what happens when elite sculpture teams from across the globe descend on one snowy spot for 10 frigid, glorious days to chisel, carve, and polish 20-ton blocks of snow into massive, SF MoMA-worthy masterpieces. These aren’t snowmen. They’re towering, intricate monuments that make adult humans look like garden gnomes.

At Carve Tahoe, that meant harvesting—yes, harvesting—over 168 dump trucks' worth of clean, washed snow to build 12 colossal blocks of sculptable snow granite.

The result? A jaw-dropping spectacle at Northstar Tahoe that entertained, captivated, and left visitors awe-struck. Teams hailed from Germany, Canada, Japan, Finland, Mongolia, Idaho, Wisconsin and more—turning a ski resort into a gallery of frozen brilliance.
